About Shazea

Shazea Quraishi is a Pakistani-born Canadian poet and translator based in London. 

The Glimmer is her most recent collection, published in 2023 by Bloodaxe Books. Other books include The Taxidermist (Verve Poetry Press, 2020), The Art of Scratching (Bloodaxe Books, 2015), and The Courtesans Reply (flipped eye publishing, 2012).  Her poems have been widely published in the UK and US, including most recently Mapping the Future: The Complete Works Poets (Bloodaxe Books, 2023), and Poetry: A Writer's Guide and Anthology (Bloomsbury Academic, U.S. 2023). 

Shazea runs Poetry Studio, an online programme of writing workshops for new and experienced poets, inspired by reading poetry in English and in translation. She also teaches online/IRL with the Poetry School, Arvon, RHACC School of Ideas and others. 

An alumni of the Complete Works, Shazea worked with English PEN as a writer on their outreach program in prisons and refugee communities from 2010—2015, and was a trustee from 2015—2023.  She is an ongoing writer in residence and associate of Living Words, an arts charity that works with marginalised people including those impacted by a dementia or mental health concerns.

Shazea has received awards from the Royal Society of Literature, the British Council and Arts Council of England.

She is one of the judges of the inaugural PEN Heaney prize 2024.
